All in all, Sonic Boom is a fun cartoon that I respect for getting the notoriously unpleasable fanbase to agree on something before the infamous 2019 movie trailer had them agreeing on something - mainly that this show is surprisingly not terrible - but won't exactly be singing its praises to my peers anytime soon. Yes, the Tomatopotomus joke is amusing and the consensus that this show is "Teen Titans Go! but actually good" is kind-of true (I've only seen a few episodes of TTG and the movie but I have good-enough knowledge of its reputation) but I'm not exactly holding it in as high regard as Golden Age SpongeBob. The show is funny, just not mind-blowingly funny. Lastly, Knuckles has appeared in various Sonic media outside of the video games, including the Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series and the Sonic Boom. Sometimes, they do a better job here than they do in the games, though that's mostly due to the scripts they have to work with, coupled with my preference for the 2000's actors whose voices I felt fit the characters better. Sonic and friends (including new character Sticks who has yet to be brought to the game continuity anytime soon.like X's Cosmo, my guess is she never will) do a good job riffing off of each other and the voice actors do a good job. ![]() At least, that's what I figure ("OMG, that's the thing Sonic said in the Black Knight game"). The anime did a better job giving off a sense of momentum when it came to Sonic's speed and that show had the disadvantage of being given a smaller budget than most anime leading to more economical animation than what was common at the time. The characters look appealing and are expressive but budget limitations are holding this show back, especially when Sonic has to show off his super speed, where he looks more like he's jogging. Robotnik to believe Sonic was after the Master Emerald. 1 Mystic Monkey In Sonic 3, Knuckles is introduced as someone who was fooled by Dr. ![]() The animation's okay given that it's a CGI TV show released in 2014. Knuckles was stupid in Boom because the writers thought it would make the show better. I'm not too big a fan of the character designs, especially Buff Knuckles, but they do look better than the Crash Bandicoot cast's redesigns in Crash of the Titans where the titular hero had an outdated mid-2000's appearance and only N. By no means a masterpiece of comedy and some of the jokes, mainly meta ones relating to his games, are ones you might have already heard on the Internet, hell, on Sonic's official Twitter page which has quite the sense of humour about these kinds of things, but fun. On its own merits, Sonic Boom is enjoyable. I've never played the infamous Rise of Lyric due to my defection from Nintendo to ultimately join the big boys over at PlayStation land but luckily, the TV show goes out of its way to distance itself from one of Sonic's biggest disasters since the 2006 game, which seems to have been all but declared non-canon to this universe. While I don't feel as strongly about this show as some other people might and, thanks to being a comedy-first show, is lacking in action, especially as somebody who binged most of the first two seasons of Sonic X back during a time when I was more obsessed with the Blue Blur, Sonic Boom is a decent cartoon. ![]()
